The July Schooling Show Just Keeps Getting Better

We wrapped up our third show of the year with the largest July Schooling Show we’ve ever held. With exactly 100 entries accounting for 175 rides, we sold out the show and hired an additional judge to run the third competition ring. Thank you to our loyal competitors who have helped us sell out 12 schooling shows in a row!

No show of this size escapes issues, and we certainly had our share. As best I can tell, we were able to overcome each challenge and create a positive experience even through adversity. A few examples:

  • We got word at 10pm on Thursday that our Food Vendor had been hospitalized. By noon the next day Deb Roccaforte had lined up a new food truck for the show, and after tasting their brisket, I am a huge fan. Thanks Hoosier Que!
  • After a very wet July in Central Indiana, the Hoosier Horse Park saw 5″ of rain on Friday which caused the entire Dressage Complex to be underwater at the storm’s peak. One awesome competitor took the initiative and spent Saturday evening after schooling concluded draining the worst of the remaining puddles from the competition rings with a submersible pump. Thanks for your service Jennifer Wright!
  • One trailer’s rooftop air conditioner had an unfortunate introduction to the overhanging roof on Barn L. The HHP staff triaged the barn while another competitor patched up the trailer. Thanks Brenner Klenzman!
  • A young rider at her first show suffered an unplanned dismount while circling the ring before her test. With some creative scheduling, she was able to come back out and earn a blue ribbon later in the day.

We were so thrilled to see so many of you and your horses. It fills our hearts to see a rider take her young horse down center line for the first time scoring an unbelievable 78% debut. Or to glance over to the warm-up arena and see an absolutely beautiful horse and rider pair, and realize they hauled from out of state to be here. And even to stand ringside watching a Pan Am Games Gold Medal winning event horse and new owner tune up their dressage in preparation to move up an Eventing level next weekend. These are the moments that make it all worthwhile!
